Restoring the past for the future

This window had been damaged by vandalism, the whole face section had been lost.

The broken pieces were gathered up in order to study the paintwork, as so much was lost it was decided to paint a new section as a replacement.
1st Stage trace, black trace stain (click to enlarge)
1st stage black trace painting in detail, this was done after an extensive study of the broken fragments.

2nd Stage, matt and blend using black stain creates shape and shadow.

3rd stage, matt and blend using Bistre brown creates the upper layer of shadow and shape.

The final stage of paint adding highlight to hair using silver oxide stain.

After painting other sections in the same manner, the glass was fitted back to the window onsite. Returning it back to a whole finished window, to be appreciated again.
